The Beatles and AC/DC websites

The Beatles band website Is not what I expected it to be, it is more modern yet "quiet" in terms of colour scheme as oppose to the AC/DC website which maintains its bold black and gold colour scheme throughout the whole website. This is a format I would like to copy for my website, with the colour scheme to remain bright throughout the whole website, to create synergy with my band logo.

In addition, another difference between the two websites is the photos that are chosen to illustrate and convey the two bands to the fans. For The Beatles website the photos used seem more "tame" and calm to convey the beetles and their personalities, Whereas, on the AC/DC website, it’s more “lively” and “wild”. However, this is just a technique used to attract the fan base, this is because fans would be seen to somehow adopt a certain lifestyle depending on some of the music they listen to. Therefore, the AC/DC website tries to create a really energetic, rocker atmosphere with images of massive audiences at their live concerts with pyro techniques and fireworks to add to the fun.

Something I found interesting about The Beatles website, was the sans serif font they decided to use for the whole website, apart from the logo, which is just the original serif logo. This is because they have decided to be dynamic and use a font that may appeal more to a younger demographic. But for AC/DC this is quite the opposite. All the headings and sub-headings use the same font as the logo, the only thing that is different is the colour. The original logo is seen to be gold throughout the website, but for all the other webpages, the sub-headings are white. This creates a true AC/DC atmosphere/appearance without seeming like it is saturating the website. Furthermore, the fonts used are specifically to indicate the genre of the music. For The Beatles, the font is calmer and fits with the 60s decade when The Beatles where becoming increasingly popular.

The typography for both websites is surprisingly similar. Even if they have two completely different appearances. Most artist or band websites follow a similar format to these, where they have the artist’s/band’s logo in either the top left corner, or at the top with a central logo and subheadings down the side of the home screen. They generally always have photos of their live concerts or of shots taken during filming music videos.

The website always will try to create a positive image of the artist/band. This is all for the purpose of trying to ‘sell’ the music. This is because the music is not necessarily a needed product, but very much in high demand. Therefore, the purpose of any merch or websites, will be to create an image of the band/artist and build on awareness of the artist and their music.  Merch cannot have loads of text, because people will not be able to read a whole paragraph if they are just walking past someone with clothes such as hoodies, therefore, the merch will have phrases or logos/symbols specific to the artist/band to make people’s eyes trail straight to the most important part, making them aware of the band/artist’s presence, encouraging them to listen to the music.
