ABBA- Money, Money, Money analysis - similar to what I want to create

ABBA- Money, Money, Money music video analysis

1.

Cinematography: very quick short pans, in time with the music. Continuity shots to the music, increases the pace of the video

Editing: quick short shot durations.

Sound: non-diegetic to start

Mise-en-scene: busy street. Well-groomed hair, nice clothes. Bright lighting too.

What I would like to do that is similar: I would like to have shots cut to the timing of the music and continuity shots.

2.

Cinematography: sudden zoom in

Editing: continuity shot to her face turning, allows for the performative element to flow

Sound: all diegetic. Performative element fits in time

Mise-en-scene: dark lighting, face half lit. stylish hat and hair

What I would like to do that is similar: Dark lighting on face, during lip-syncing

 3.

Cinematography: focus on money falling onto surface, and shining

Editing: continuity shot to money falling, in time with the music

Sound: diegetic

Mise-en-scene: shiny coins all sparkling in the lighting

What I would like to do that is similar: exercise books or textbooks (could be pens and pencils) falling on table in focus

 4.

Cinematography: slightly slower zoom in on people, both equally framed in shot

Editing: medium shot duration

Sound: all diegetic. Performative element fits in time

Mise-en-scene: dark lighting, face half lit. stylish clothes and fashionable hair

What I would like to do that is similar: Dark lighting on face, during lip-syncing but more people in different lip-syncing shots, for shot variation

 5.

Cinematography: slow zoom in

Editing: allows for the performative element to flow

Sound: all diegetic. Performative element fits in time

Mise-en-scene: red lighting, face half lit.

What I would like to do that is similar: coloured lighting on face, during lip-syncing, focusing on the light, not the person

 6.

Cinematography: choppy zoom in

Editing: continuity shot of face lip-syncing, so it’s not all one long continuous shot

Sound: diegetic allows performative element

Mise-en-scene: dark background but face brightly lit.

What I would like to do that is similar: Dark background, during lip-syncing but bright lighting on face

 7.

Cinematography: side-on shot of lip-syncing

Editing: continuity shot to their faces turning, allows for the performative element to flow

Sound: diegetic for performative element

Mise-en-scene: dark lighting, face lit. matching stylish clothes and hair

What I would like to do that is similar: Dark lighting on face, during lip-syncing and matching stylish clothes and hair

 8.

Cinematography: focused, still shot of bottle opening

Editing: continuity shot to show bottle popping in time with the music

Mise-en-scene: dark lighting, bottle lit. cork pops out in time to the music

What I would like to do that is similar: sudden movement/action to the music with still camera focused on something

 9.

Cinematography: focused on money – reflects lyrics

Editing: continuity shot money being displayed

Mise-en-scene: dark lighting, money lit.

What I would like to do that is similar: Dark lighting on objects (maybe school books)

 10.

Cinematography: close-up of lips lip-syncing

Editing: continuity shot to lips

Sound: diegetic for performative element

Mise-en-scene: face brightly lit

What I would like to do that is similar: close up of mouth lip-syncing

 11.

Cinematography: close-up of eyes open

Editing: continuity shot to eyes

Mise-en-scene: face brightly lit

What I would like to do that is similar: close up of eyes

  1. Great analysis! There's some really good scope for an intertextual reference in your own video from this. Ms Cope
