Music video reflection - No roots Shreya Sperryn
Music video reflection - No Roots - Shreya Sperryn
What have you learned?/What Went Well?
- I have learned how to vary location
- how to manage shot duration
- how to create ambient lighting to add to mise-en-scene
- my shots showed on the beats/in time with the music
- good association of shots to the lyrics
- the repetition of shots on the guitar riff was successful
Have you encountered any problems? If so, how did you solve them?
1. having to edit lip syncing to fit the music (I had to slow-mo some of the lip syncing to fit better but not all of it could be put in time to the music
2. music wasn't downloading to iMovie for a very long time, until I sorted it on a home laptop
- focusing the camera for the first few shots of lip syncing - so I had to put a filter on the first few shots to increase the definition
3. match on action shots for lip syncing looked slightly inconsistent because my three actors lip syncing were different heights
4. the use of the fish eye lens did slightly sharp the actors faces in the first few shots, so I decided to not use it for the rest of the video, but for consistency I had to film the actors in the blue background with the lens as I could not re film it
5. it wasn't particularly noticeable but the bedroom floor could've been made slightly clearer in the first shot, just to make it look more professional
6. the path match-on-action shots looked slightly disjointed because the path was slightly wobbly. However, it was meant to look like that and feedback from other people about this aspect of the video was majorly positive
7. My actors lip syncing was in time, however, she didn't mouth the words clearly so it almost makes the lip syncing look out of time
8. slightly busier backgrounds, such as the second building structure that was abandoned and neglected looked slightly disjointed too when in match on action shots, however, again, I received a lot of good feedback regarding this point of the video

How would you improve this for next time?
1. I will have to re-shoot shots when it comes to making the assessed video if lip syncing does not fit properly.
2. I've now sorted out the problem with the Macs and my laptop
3. I have to make sure the lighting in front of the actors is slightly brighter in order to let the camera focus on them. This should ensure better quality and a higher resolution, without needing the lens.
4. I will have to make sure I film my actors at the same heights so that the background stays in place and only the actors change. This will just make it look more polished and professional
5. I won't use the fish eye lens next time unless it's needed.
6. next time ill fully clear or consider the background of the shots, to make the shots neater, and focus on the actors
7. I would probably use a tripod and possibly a level finder to ensure that match-on-action shots have a lot cleaner transitions
8. I'll make sure that the actors clearly lip sync, that will also make it a lot easier to edit
9. again, I'd use a tripod and level finder
